The Benefits of Membership
Membership Benefits SWS supports the array of experiences of our members, from opportunities and resources for graduate students to our retired mentoring group and the various stages in between. We value members within academia, education, nonprofits and in other applied settings. Notably, members have access to:
- Gender & Society: A top ranked journal in sociology and women’s studies that is housed in SWS. The journal has had a tremendous impact on the careers of feminist scholars.
- United Nations engagement: SWS has accreditation with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), allowing SWS members to participate fully in the UN system including attending as delegates and presenting research at the UN conferences such as the UN Commission on the Status of Women (UN-CSW).
- SWS Listserv: The SWS listserv is an invaluable resource for members where job opportunities, calls for papers and meetings are often shared.
- Winter Meetings: Attend the annual winter meeting for the association and get to know this community.
- Various mentoring groups such as a Retired Mentoring Group and Peer Mentoring Groups, including peer mentoring for those working in or interested in applied settings.
- “Critique Me” program, which pairs members with an individual mentor who can offer advice on CV/job market materials and help with general job search related questions.
- Opportunities and resources for graduate students at all stages, including dissertation awards.
