The 2026 Membership Renewal Process is now under way. Your SWS Membership is now lapsed and we hope you will take this opportunity to reconnect with SWS and consider coming to the 2026 Winter Meeting that will take place in San Diego this February 5-8, 2026! 

Coming together in person is special. The opportunities to strengthen connections, engage in candid conversations, and collaborate in meaningful ways simply can’t be replicated in other contexts. Inspired by this chance to gather together, the Planning Committee intends to build a meeting where we can explore unfamiliar ideas, alternative paths, and deep questions—where there is space to learn, build skills, seek help, and offer insights. Together, we’ll take time to engage with each other’s work and we’ll hold space for play and activities that bring us peace, joy, and connection.

Once your membership is current for 2026, you will receive access to complete an Interest Form in lieu of a Call for Papers

To fully realize our vision, we are trying something new by inviting members to complete an interest form. The interest form has two major sections and members are invited to respond to both areas. 

Section One includes what appear to be more traditional opportunities for conference participation. Session options vary in formality and in purpose (from collaborative idea incubation, to problem-solving, to presenting well-developed work). 

Section Two invites members to share your needs, interests, knowledge, skills, and talents. We are especially eager to hear from you in this more “outside-the-box” section to help us curate a meaningful conference experience.

And there is more!

The Planning Committee will use the information shared by members to develop a preliminary program. Then, we will share a second invitation, giving members the opportunity to RSVP and indicate their interest in formally participating and having their name appear on the Winter Meeting program.

Just like SWS itself, this single meeting can’t be everything to everyone. All of the creative ideas can’t be realized, and not all needs can be met in two days. But we believe this process supports the co-creation of a meeting program that reflects members’ needs and interests, is flexible enough to respond to emerging concerns, and allows time to just “be.”  And, remember SWS offers opportunities to engage throughout the year. We will be in dialogue with SWS’s six Programmatic Committees so they can consider input provided by members for future virtual programming.

There is something specific that brings us to SWS. To this collection of people; this set of ideas and values and commitments. In this moment it is particularly essential for us to show up for each other and demonstrate solidarity.
